I was so excited to find out I won this amazing print from Row Boat Press during a Yellow Brick Home giveaway back in December!

When the package arrived on our doorstep, I may or may not have done a happy, squealing dance…then I ran out to Michaels to see if I could find a frame for it. Alas, there were no 20 x 26 frames ready to go, so instead, we got those frame pieces that you assemble yourself. I wish I could remember what they are called, but I can’t…because Daniel did it – I was just his helper. So, we gathered everything we needed for the project…

The nice lady at Michaels cut down the glass to make it 20 x 26…and my only job was to get the right screwdriver. Daniel asked me if we needed a flat head or Phillips head, I told him I was sure we needed Phillips head. Alas, I was wrong…

Oh well…I finally found a flat head screwdriver and Daniel put the frame together…

Turk and Rufus were generally unhelpful…

20 minutes later…our print was framed and I am officially in lurve!

Don’t worry, mom, I didn’t get rid of the print you gave me, I just moved it!

Thank you to Yellow Brick Home and Row Boat Press for the amazing print – we love it!

I’m baaaaaaaaaack! I can’t believe it’s been nearly two weeks since my last blog post. I trust Turk was polite and remembered to blog about the things you suggested. You have no idea how nice it was for him to offer, but considering his lack of opposable thumbs, I wasn’t quite sure how he was going to do it…now Rufus is looking to get into the blogging game (although he expects to be paid for it – we’re still in negotiations) and maybe Ginger will do a post in the future, too? We’ll see. The blogging thing totally exhausted Turk, and so he’s currently asleep on the couch, muttering about “adding tags” and “my stellar blog stats.” Sigh.

Anyways, it’s Friday and I’m still in my post-final semi-coma, so I’ll leave you with this Sunday afternoon project I took on for my mom about a month ago. She had two beat up yellow chairs that she was using for her desk and that my dad was using for a place-to-leave-his-clothes in their master bedroom. I took them home with me this summer and finally got around to working on them on a Saturday that I decided to neglect homework and watch season one of Breaking Bad with Daniel instead.

Painting pants are a must whenever I get out the brush – it always manages to get everywhere!

Ginger “helped” me paint.

Ginger “helped” Daniel add padding to the seats.

A few hours of work and they went from zero to hero! We had the paint already from my mom’s dining room table revamp, so all we had to buy was the padding for the seat and the fabric (approximately $15). The fabric is actually indoor/outdoor fabric (like for deck furniture), so it should be really durable! I was psyched about how it turned out and my mom lurves it, so I think this was a success!

Have you given any furniture a makeover lately (with or without the “help” of your dogs)?

* This is my 200th post – can you believe it?! We have come a long way since THIS first post. Thanks for sticking with me and making this blog such a blast to write! *

Well, maybe not remodel…but Daniel did work hard on that bathroom over the last month. Re-tiling the floor, painting the walls, and replacing a cracked toilet tank. With the help of his dad, Daniel was able to take our bathroom from this when we first moved in:

To this during the remodel:

Now, the final product:

Oh, and my contribution to the remodel? This cool piece I found at Mash Handmade in Westport. I framed it and we put it in the bathroom. It’s an explanation of how to make a tin can telephone.

We are really happy with how the bathroom turned out! Daniel was a superstar with the tiling and painting…he’ll be posting soon to explain how he did the tiling and to give you a budget breakdown. Oh, and we’re also thrilled to cross another item off our Goals list!

What remodel projects have you been up to lately?

I bought a large frame last fall for $1.00 at a garage sale. I had this idea in mind to put a bunch of photo frames within the larger frame to bring some art into our bedroom (which was majorly lacking in art). I spray painted the frame a high-gloss white and, after it dried, hung it on the wall with place markers for the size of frames I was looking for.

I bought all of my frames from the Target REstyle collection (my fave!) and filled them with art, fun postcards we’ve collected, and a wedding photo. Here is the finished product:

Pretty cool, huh? Let’s take a closer look!

This is a cool postcard I found at Powell’s during our trip to Portland, Oregon. It reminds us of all the yummy food trucks we visited. It also reminds us that we need to get back there…soon…and possibly permanently!

I got this little promotional art piece from an art show for Marc Shank. It feels all industrial and nature-y at the same time!

Clockwise from the top: a photo from our wedding, a Hammerpress gift tag, an IKEA art card, and another card we found in Portland at the Saturday Market.

Another card I found at some cute store, although I can’t remember which one…and finally, “Man’s (Original) Best Friend.”

I also whipped up another cute little frame for above my nightstand with a Hammerpress card and some more IKEA art cards…

Maybe when our bedroom is actually clean for more than 5 minutes I will get a wider photo of the room that incorporates the new frames. Maybe.

Total cost for this project

Garage Sale frame – $1.00
Rustoleum High Gloss White spray paint – $3.77
Target REstyle frames (assorted sizes) – $23.31
Craft wrapping paper – $1.87
Assorted art, photos and cards – $0 (had them around the house)

TOTAL:
$29.95

Not too bad considering we FINALLY have some art in our bedroom! This week we’re taking a little break from all things dog and will be focusing on more DIY stuff since Daniel finally finished re-tiling the bathroom (and it looks GOOD!) and he is working on installing a new mantle over the fireplace. I also finished a couple mini DIY projects that I can’t wait to share.

* And for a little tidbit of information on Daniel & I – today is the 6 year anniversary of our first date. After years of being “just friends” in college, Daniel finally asked me out for our first date on October 25, 2005. We saw a free preview of “Walk the Line” and never looked back. He’s been my boo ever since. Happy Anniversary, dearest! Love you so! *
