Lucy Lou was bumming out hard on Friday because she thought she was going to be dateless on Valentine’s Day. But throughout the day, several eligible bachelors expressed interest in making a love connection! Lucy Lou is so overwhelmed with her options, so she’d like your help to pick her date – kind of like a canine reality dating show!

Here are the eligible bachelors and their pleas to Lucy Lou…

1. Charlie MacheteLucy Lou, if you’re looking for a snuggle buddy, I am your man! (Don’t be jealous of my sister Minnie — we have a purely platonic relationship.) In addition to the cuddle factor, I also boast an energy level to match your own, so you can always trust that I’ll keep up with you on wild adventures. Plus, I have the shiniest coat in Kansas City.

2. CorbinOh, Lucy Lou… ya know, I’ve got some good good looks and, if you can believe it, I’ve only asked one girl to be my Valentine’s date, but I lost her. And I asked her before I even met you! So that can’t be held against me. But I believe in fate and I think I lost my chance with Mayzie so I could have you as my date. Everything happens for a reason, right?  So, would you make me Mr. Lucy Lou for a day? I’d be most honored. PS. I think you’re super beautiful.

3. Razer – I am an extreme snuggler – I take my job of “portable heater” very seriously. I am an obedience graduate on my way to getting a masters in CGC with a minor in targeting. I love extreme sports: tug-of-war, rope toss, flirt pole, and couch & bed leaping! May I add, Miss Lucy Lou, that your eyes make me think of honey and peanut butter; two of my most favorite things! My idea of a perfect date would be to play, play, snuggle, play, eat, and then snuggle.

4. Kamanchi – I would be the perfect valentine for Lucy Lou because, well, look at me! I am an 8 year old pit bull mix and with my chocolate brown eyes, sugar dipped muzzle and let’s not forget…the ears…my mom tells me I am the George Clooney of canines. Don’t let my age and dashing good looks fool you, I am all heart and know how to treat a lady. So if Lucy is looking for a handsome, sensitive, distinguished companion, I am definitely her guy.

5. NemoMy Dear Lovely Lucy, I would be so honored to be your Valentine. You are a beautiful doggie and are worth at least 20,000 bones before getting out of bed! I live with several ladies now (I assure you they are just roommates!) so I know how ladies like to be treated. I am also a true gentleman, and I would woo you with peanut butter filled Kongs, let you have the best spot in the sun to lay in, and I would even let you play with my special red ball. I am also an extraordinary cuddler as I have lots of experience. Ever Yours, Nemo

So many handsome dudes – but there is only one Lucy Lou! So, please take this poll to help her decide which of these guys should be HER guy! If you don’t see a bachelor on here that you think would be best for Lucy, vote for a write-in candidate! Vote early! Vote often! Help Lucy Lou choose! The winner will be announced tomorrow – and maybe, just maybe, prizes will be involved!

But if no one votes, then Lucy Lou is having a ladies night with her girl Skye!

This week has turned me back into a bright-eyed child, anxiously awaiting Santa’s arrival… my Secret Santa gift was due to arrive any day and I could. not. wait!

But Monday turned to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, and Wednesday to Thursday…and still no package arrived. Did Santa lose my package in a snowstorm? Did he get distracted by a cute elf and forget about me? Luckily, that was not case. While my Secret Santa sent my package on Monday, it seems to be taking it’s sweet time to get to my door. Being the sweetheart that she is, Law Student of Two Grads Students and a Pittie, revealed herself as my Secret Santa(!) and sent me some photos of the gift so I would know what was coming my way! Law Student enjoys scrapbooking, so she made me a scrapbook page for Ginger Rogers and asked that, “with each new foster, we hope you will let us send you a scrapbook page.” Isn’t that sweet?! I always have good intentions of making scrapbooks but never seem to get around to it, so now I have a pro who is willing to do it for me! So cool!

Havi also got in on the Secret Santa-ing and included an antler in the package for our pups. Here is Havi supervising the package assembly and the soon-to-be enjoyed antler…

As if that wasn’t enough, Law Student made a contribution to the Houston Pittie Pack’s Chipin in our honor! Isn’t that awesome?! I absolutely love, love, love our gifts – thank you to Mrs. Law Student for your thoughtful and generous gift! You are the best!

Alright, now I’m off to check out That Touch of Pit, Two Pitties in the City, Love and a Six-Foot Leash, Twenty-Six to Life, Pittieful Love, and Two Grad Students and a Pittie to see what everyone else got from their Secret Santas! You should too!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to each and every one of you!

XOXO,

Daniel, Emily, Turk, Rufus, and our not-so-little Red-Nosed Reindog, Ginger Rogers

Please remember to check back here on Monday for the start of our giveaway-a-day series and answers to some of your burning questions!

Young House Love (and several other big time DIY bloggers) issued a challenge to their readers to take something that inspires them from Pintrest and ‘do your own spin on something you pin.’

While I already featured this project for my guest post on Twenty-Six to Life, I wanted to feature it on our blog as well for this challenge since it was completely inspired from one of my pins….annnnnd, I didn’t have time to do something from scratch. So bear with me here…

So, I started with this reclaimed wood headboard as my “pinspiration.”

With that as a starting point, Daniel and I created our own reclaimed wood sign for the mantle…

It’s quite a bit different from our ‘pinspiration’ but we wouldn’t have even thought to do it had we not pinned it.

You can read our “how-to” for this project on our guest post with Twenty-Six to Life.

Hope you like our submission for the 2011 Pintrest Challenge! Please feel free to follow me on Pintrest!

Oh. my. goodness! I am so excited to have the very first guest post on our blog! Kate from Twenty-Six to Life was gracious enough to not only do a post for me – but she’s also letting me do a guest post on her blog – ON HER BIRTHDAY! So please give her lots of love here and then head on over to her blog and give me some love there!!

Without further adieu, here’s Kate (the birthday girl)!

Hi! My name is Kate. I blog at Twenty-Six to Life about all sorts of stuff like DIY, my dogs, and (my attempts at) dieting. Super huge big THANK YOU to Emily for having me as a guest blogger today. I’m excited to be blogging in a new space about one of my favorite projects.

Since you have no idea who I am, here’s a picture of me hanging out at the beach.

I look so happy and relaxed don’t I? A beach will do that to you. Unfortunately it’s not possible to be so happy and relaxed all the time. Say for example… when you’re building a bed!

I’ll start with the finished product first. Here’s the bed that I built based on the plans created by Ana White.

As great as it looks now, it took awhile to get it there. The first step was creating the “shell” of the bed, which is essentially three large bench pieces with huge cubby holes.

Next came building the drawers and adding trim. The Ana White plans don’t call for trim on the faces of the drawers, but I think the trim makes it look more finished. Not to mention, it hides flaws!

Lastly, it was time to prime and paint all of the pieces. I built a king size bed, so the “shell” and drawers are all really big. The pieces for this bed pretty much filled up any usable space in this 2 car garage.

Since building the bed a few people have talked to me about doing something similar on their own. I am 100% in the “Go For It!” camp, but I did learn a few things along the way that might help if you decide to undertake a similar furniture building project:

  • Pilot holes are your friends.
  • Your math will always be inexplicably wrong. (apparently two plus two equals four and a smidge)
  • You will need to touch up the paint once it’s in place, no matter how careful you are.
  • Drawers suck. A lot.
  • Sanding sucks. Even more.
  • Measure twelve times. Cut it too long. Measure again. Cut off a little more. Repeat as necessary. The piece will still not be the length you thought it was supposed to be, but it will fit. Go with it.
  • When you finally get to sleep on it, it will be the best sleep ever. Because you’re so tired.
  • Always accept help when its offered. If it’s not offered, resort to bribery. A free meal will buy a lot. It’s worth it.
  • Always have another battery for your drill charging. If you have it, you won’t need it, but if you don’t, you will.
  • Trim will hide a lot of mistakes.
  • Do not, under any circumstances, say you will be finished by X date. You won’t be finished by then. Not even close. Just be happy with the progress you’ve made.
  • Done is good.
  • Really good.

Before doing this project I had never considered building my own furniture, but it’s incredible to know that it can be done. I’m so happy with how it turned out, and it’s pretty comfortable too.
